[Introduction]
This visual novel project began as a simple writing exercise after reading Steins;Gate for the first time. I felt inspired to write a story that explored the mundane life of an ordinary man with a special ability, only for the stakes to reach unbelievable highs. One of my favorite things in fiction is when readers are given a break from the story to see how far they’ve come since the beginning of the journey.
After reading Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa, I felt compelled to write a story that critiqued the world at large, similar to how the visual novel challenged the idea of justice by saying that it is often used to justify the immoral act of killing.
I’m a fan of games featuring sad robot girls. Nikke, Girls’ Frontline, Nier Automata, are some you may be familiar with. The stories in these games are pretty decent and I wanted to try to writing one for myself. So here we are.
[What is the visual novel about?]
This visual novel’s story is currently in development. Many of the ideas written here might change in the final version.
The Theme
The theme of the visual novel is about taking responsibility for your own life in a world where people are constantly trying to control you.
The Setting
My story for this project takes place in an alternate version of our Earth in the future. A New World Order has been established by a coalition of nations under the “Pangaean Accord”. The goal of this treaty is to achieve “Pangaea Ultima”, the group’s version of a complete and unified world.
Nations who refuse to participate in the treaty are seen as rogue nations and a threat to humanity’s unified future, and are forced into war for their sovereignty by the Pangaeans.
Humans have primarily been fighting in the war, but that has begun to change. Seemingly out of nowhere, a new technology emerged – The Galatea: artificial humanoid bodies with capabilities beyond the average human being.
These lifeless cybernetic bodies come to life when implanted with the nervous system of a human being. The process is grueling and results in the human donor losing their biological body.
A Galatea can easily have the combat effectiveness of several men into one unit, potentially turning the tide of battle with one present in the field. And with more being produced every year, many are wondering if human history will ultimately be decided by the victories achieved by these cyborg warriors.
The Protagonist
Amana Amagi is a Galatea currently assigned to the Aztlan government’s Secretariat of Defense (SEDENA). For the last several years, she has been assuming a false identity following the murder of a Pangaean official in the annexed island-nation of Yamato. She shares many specifications with Galatea of a similar frame, but one thing makes her stand out: Amagi does not have a nervous system.
Showing incredible potential during her time at Aztlan’s premiere military college, she was chosen to participate in a mentorship program during her Senior year. Amagi was assigned a rather unorthodox mentor who was the head of a private martial arts school that specialized in sword-fighting. While proficient with most weapon systems, she enjoys practicing with her blade since it’s not available as a program that can be downloaded, like most Galatea do to learn new skills.
Additional Notes
While my story might seem about tacticool cyborg girls at first, I actually want to explore several ideas related to the human consciousness and esotericism.
This story’s main antagonists will be people who are strongly attached to the material world and this false reality that we have come to live in. They will be obsessed with the idea of becoming Gods themselves at the cost of increasing the amount of suffering in the world.
In contrast to that, I want to promote the idea that every person has a divine spark within them. In a way, we are slumbering Gods who have been too distracted by the constant noise of the material world to realize our potential. The people who want to run this world are very cold and depressed people who feel the need to put us down because they have never achieved happiness themselves.
